From the Dean
Since its founding in 1973, the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy has been educating students to be leaders and innovators in private, public, and non-profit settings throughout Florida and around the globe. This is a vital, diverse, and complex educational ecosystem, enriching the intellectual and cultural lives of those who study and work here.
The college includes six academic departments with more than 120 faculty and eight interdisciplinary centers and institutes that focus upon a range of policy issues. Our faculty produces research that shapes public policy in areas as diverse as fiscal policy, environmental protection, economic literacy, disaster response, and election reform.
We have roughly 4,500 undergraduate majors and 700 graduate students, making the college the third largest at FSU. The college is committed to providing excellent instruction in the classroom and substantial learning opportunities outside the classroom through our Get More Than a Degree initiative. Our outstanding students are encouraged to study abroad, develop their professional skills, engage in research with faculty, and participate in nationally recognized student organizations. Graduates go on to be leaders in business, government, politics, educational institutions, and nonprofit organizations.
The college relies upon the ongoing support of our alumni and friends to continue its longstanding tradition of excellence. I encourage all alumni to give back to the college. Your financial support goes directly to expand the educational and professional development opportunities of our students. Alumni can also greatly benefit our students by sharing experiences and knowledge, and connecting students to internships and job opportunities in their field.
I invite you to visit the college in person and reconnect with students and faculty in your degree program. In the meantime, I encourage you to explore this website to get just a taste of the many great things happening here.
