Pepper Institute Faculty Elected to National Fellowship

Researchers at Florida State University’s Pepper Institute on Aging and Public Policy are being recognized nationally for their important work on aging issues that take on greater and greater significance as the world’s population grows older and people live longer.

College Alum, a 2012 Social Science Scholar, Wins Prestigious Fellowship

Caitlin Strawder, a 2013 graduate of the college with majors in political science and interdisciplinary social science, has won a prestigious Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship supported by the U.S. Department of State. The program provides funding, mentoring and professional development for a job in the U.S. Foreign Service — an accomplishment that Strawder had once considered a “far-fetched” dream.

COSSPP Students Earn Prestigious Boren Scholarships to Study Abroad

Three of the four Florida State University students who earned prestigious David L. Boren Scholarships this year to study abroad in areas of the world critical to U.S. national security are from from the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy.

Seniors Kelly Baker, Christine Fleitas, and Ljubica “Kiki” Nikolic were among 194 undergraduates nationally to earn scholarships from the federal program, which provides scholars up to $20,000 for 12 months of study.

Lectures Bring the World to Your Doorstep

The college’s Get More Than a Degree initiative was established to give undergraduates opportunities for expansive and transformative educational experiences outside the traditional classroom. One of the key components of the initiative is bringing scholars and experts to campus for talks on a wide range of issues. But it’s more than undergrads who gain from these programs.

Pepper Institute Offers Post-Doc Fellowship

2017-2018 Postdoctoral Fellowship in Social Gerontology Pepper Institute on Aging and Public Policy

The Pepper Institute on Aging and Public Policy, located within the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy at Florida State University, is currently recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow for a one-year position (with a possible one-year renewal) to begin on or around August 25, 2017.

COSSPP Represented Well in 2017 Garnet and Gold Inductions


Florida State University’s prestigious Garnet and Gold Scholar Society welcomed 216 new members this spring, its largest group of inductees to date.

Once again, students with majors in the college represented well: 38 inductees or close to 18% of the total. Undergraduates within the college account for about 12% of the total student population.

College Undergrads Win Leadership Awards

Leadership Awards Night is an annual recognition of students, faculty, staff, and organizations that have epitomized the definition of leadership by their exemplary contributions to the Florida State University community through achievement, service, or organizational leadership involvement.

Grad Students Honored for Excellence

When FSU celebrated the achievements of its graduate students on April 18, 2017, eleven students of the college were among those recognized for the awards they have received from sources both within and outside the university.

Tim Chapin Named Dean of College

Florida State University Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Sally McRorie announced, April 20, 2017, the selection of Tim Chapin as the dean of the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy, effective May 8.
