John S. AhlquistAssistant Professor Tel: 850.644.4276 Background:I received my PhD in political science from the University of Washington and my AB in political economy of industrial societies from UC Berkeley. I also held a postdoctoral fellowship at UCLA's Institute for Research on Labor & Employment. Research Agenda:Broadly, I am interested in how societies attempt to resolve the tension between norms of fairness and the need to provide appropriate incentives for risky investment. In my work I have examined the structure of wage bargaining; the relationship between foreign investment and economic policy and institutions; international trade and development; and the political mobilization of working class interests. Methodological interests include dynamic latent network models and mixture models for cluster analysis. Undergraduate Courses:Inequality & Redistribution Graduate Courses:Political Economics |
